You can find exhibits of fine art throughout the year at the Parnell Memorial Library Arts Gallery. See the schedule of exhibits for a complete overview.

Montevallo Downtown "Over the Years," an exhibit of photographs of historic Downtown Montevallo, opens on August 10.

A program on this exhibit will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Montevallo Arts Council on Sunday, October 3, at 2:00 p. m. in the Meeting Room of Parnell Memorial Library. Following a brief business meeting to elect Arts Council board members and officers, Montevallo Historical Commission members will provide commentary on the photos in the gallery, and audience respondents will supplement their remarks. During the reception that will follow the program, Montevallo Historical Commission members will be in the gallery to provide additional insights into the historic photos. The exhibit will close on October 20.

2010 Montevallo Arts Fest

Perfect weather, outstanding visual artists and musicians, a variety of food vendors, and the spring beauty of Orr Park and Shoal Creek made for a successful Montevallo Art Show on Saturday, April 10. Attendance was estimated at 1,400. Pictures are on Montevallo Arts Council's Facebook page and on our page of 2010 Art Show photos.

Everyone who came to the park between 10 and 4 felt like a winner, but eight visual artists were given special recognition: Best of show: Bill Hill (Trafford)--painting; 1st Place 2-D: Dennis Leatherman (Huntsville)--drawing; 1st Place 3-D: Joseph Frye (Clanton)--clay and sculpture, and awards of excellence: Troy Crisswell (Calera)--painting; Debra Riffe (Birmingham)--printmaking; Tym Davis (Maylene)--clay and sculpture; Michael Davis (Birmingham)--painting; and Maurice Cook (Birmingham)--painting.

Art show visitors enjoyed the music of the Montevallo Community Band, Sol Azteca Mariachi Band, and Sue Scrofa on the Square Stage.

Gary MotleyOn Friday evening, at the kickoff of the fourth annual Montevallo Arts Fest, an enthusiastic audience in Parnell Memorial Library Theatre applauded the concert by the Gary Motley Jazz Trio with vocalist Veronica Motley.

Support and participate in the arts!

The Council supports the work of community arts organizations, including Montevallo Main Street Players, Montevallo Chorale, and Montevallo Community Band.

The Council also offers workshops for artists and people interested in the arts. In conjunction with the Winter Showing of Recent Works by Troy and Becky Bolton Crisswell, the Arts Council sponsored a workshop on Febrary 6,2010, by Troy Crisswell. Titled Phases of Painting: The Process of Starting a Painting, the workshop focused on understanding process and gaining insights that could be applied in painting.

The University of Montevallo Calendar of Fine Arts and Cultural Events provides a convenient guide to events at the University of Montevallo. The Alabama Symphony Orchestra also presents an annual series of concerts at the University of Montevallo.
